Idiots
The Republicans in the US House of Representatives.
Anyone ever doubt that these pseudo-populist, anti-intellectual jerks were idiots? Today, we have (more) proof. The House Republicans have decided to enter into the argument over whether or not a husband can make medical decisions for his incapacitated wife, including the removal of life support. (The tragic case of Terri Schiavo). The lowest members of the lower house of our bi-cameral system have decided that no indeed, a spouse should not be allowed to make such decisions privately in consultation with a doctor, but in fact, these decision should be made by a federal judge. All of this in reaction to the suit of the incapacitated woman's parents, who are seeking to block the husband from making a decision that would effectively allow his wife to die instead of leaving her a bed ridden vegetable, supposedly protecting the "rights" of her parents.
Or is it? Florida Governor Jeb Bush has recently, and very publicly, interfered in this case, and was smartly handed a defeat by his state's own courts. (Glad to know there is someone in Florida with their head on straight!) Now the House Republicans have decided to try and bail him out.
Recently, every one of these mindless dolts has argued that we need to preserve the sanctity of marriage by passing laws banning gay marriages. That the importance of the institution of marriage rises to the level of justifying a Constitutional Amendment. Among other things, these people love to allude to the Biblical teaching that a man a woman leave their parents houses and are joined as one in the creation of a new life together. Aparently, this sacrement is sacred to them when it's a club to bludgeon the rights of minority groups, but not so sacred when fiddling about in the personal decisions of married couples might afford some more precious "political capital." How sacred can the institution of marriage really be if the parents of a grown adult can invalidate the rights of spouses to make decisions based on what they know of their partner's wishes?
So get those living wills done, folks, because once again, the House of MisRepresentatives is mucking about in your business.
